It isn’t every day that a set design receives applause from an audience.
In 1951, six bishops declared that the miracles in Lipa City, Batangas—dramatized by a shower of petals (from roses said to have originated inexplicably from, of all countries, atheist Russia)— were a hoax.
Little Boy Productions will hold summer theater workshops in Cebu for kids and teens ages 4 to 12 years old. Now on its eighth consecutive year, the workshop program will run May 5-17 at the Bright Academy campus in Talamban.
It is only in the second act of Repertory Philippines’ “Noises Off” that the production hits its stride. That’s when you hear the well-earned laughter coming from the audience. It’s like a cork has been lifted, and the wine finally gets poured.

“No Exit,” by French playwright Jean-Paul Sartre, depicts three deceased characters in the afterlife, punished by being locked into a room together for eternity. It is the source of Sartre’s often misinterpreted quote, “L’enfer, c’est les autres,” or “Hell is other people.”
There was really no music at first, or even an actual script.
It is a sad but accepted reality for teachers and theater reviewers that they must spend their lives pointing out the flaws in the works of others. It is a rare indulgence for a reviewer to gush about a beloved work without reservation.
