Creative professionals tasked to oversee the much-awaited dinner to be hosted by President Aquino for the 21 heads of state attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) leaders’ summit will portray the tropical Philippines as an urban and modern venue through color, atmosphere, food and music.
THE LAST time a giant Christmas tree was lit in front of the iconic facade of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), old-timers recall, it was little Aimee Marcos who pulled the ceremonial switch.

As President Aquino said in his welcome speech for the Cebu edition of the ongoing Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Summit, “I hope that, apart from my welcome, you will be able to feel the warm welcome of the Cebuano people, who are renowned for their musicality and hospitality. After all, you are in the Philippines’ Queen City of the South, and I hope you can take time off your busy schedules to enjoy its pristine beaches, its vibrant metropolis and most importantly its people, who are living proof that it is indeed more fun in the Philippines.”
From the Filipino artistry to credibility, Apec remains a showcase.
For its latest dinner show Monday night to welcome a new batch of delegates in the ongoing Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2015 ministerial meetings in Cebu, the event’s creative and production team led by Chris Millado drew inspiration from the Visayas region’s legendary resilience.
With Filipino indigenous culture as their “peg,” directors Floy Quintos and Alex Cortez, under the supervision of Nes Jardin, Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2015’s creative director, staged “Fused,” a 40-minute after-dinner extravaganza Saturday night that showed delegates in Cebu City the best of Filipino music, dance and fashion.
