Ballet Manila will collaborate with South Korea’s Choi So Bin Ballet in the Carmen International Friendship Gala, showcasing a repertoire of classical and contemporary numbers. Presented by the Manila Broadcasting Company, Ballet Manila and Star Theater, it will go on stage on May 4, 7:30 p.m., at Star Theater, Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex, Pasay City.

Lisa Macuja-Elizalde was in a fair at her children’s school when she came across a series of “Lola Basyang” books on sale. Leafing through the pages, she was enthralled by images of enchanted lands, bewitched sisters and mythical creatures. She thought how wonderful it would be if these stories could be told in dance.
Due to the current situation in Metro Manila and parts of Luzon brought about by inclement weather, Ballet Manila is postponing the performances of its latest production, “Tatlo Pang Kuwento ni Lola Basyang”, scheduled this weekend or on August 23, 24 and 25.
From a field of 212 contestants from 15 countries, dancers from Ballet Manila emerged with medals and citations at the 2013 Asia Grand Prix competition held Aug. 13-18 at the Y-Theater in Chai Wan, Hong Kong. Most notable among these is the Silver medal win of 14-year-old Rissa May Camaclang, the youngest Filipino to be awarded in an international ballet competition.
