Casino Español de Cebu held a Talents Night among members and dependents. It was a big hit of an evening. Held on Monday, May 21, the event expected 100, but 200 turned up at the Casino Salon de España.
Dia De La Hispanidad was celebrated with the usual fanfare by Casino Español de Cebu with a well-attended formal ball. Upon arrival, guests were led to Salon Granada for cocktails and Spanish specialties such as Queso Manchego, Jamon Serrano, Tortilla de Patatas, and special chorizo made by Ipar Miranda.
The traditional “Baile de Disfraces” at Casino Español de Cebu on New Year’s eve was one of the best in years. There was a good attendance, and the music had a special beat that urged many to take to the dance floor, with or without a partner.
The Cebu chapter of La Chaine des Rotisseurs held a fellowship dinner with a Chinese theme at the Tsay Cheng restaurant of the Cebu Grand Convention Center. Presiding were Michel Lhuillier, bailli délégué for the Philippines, and Amparito Llamas Lhuillier, baili de Cebu.
The Consular Corps of the Philippines Cebu chapter held a dinner meeting with Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama at Salon Barcelona of the Casino Español de Cebu. It was a lively gathering with Mayor Rama among the first to arrive.
CASINO Español de Cebu held its traditional celebration of Dia de la Hispanidad on Oct. 10, the Saturday closest to Oct. 12, the actual feast of Our Lady of the Pillar, patroness of Spain and all Hispanic nations, including the Philippines. It was on Oct. 12, 1492 that Christopher Columbus discovered America.
German Ambassador Dr. Joachim Heidorn recently visited Cebu with his wife Anna Maria and their little daughter Joana. This was their first visit to Cebu, as well as their first trip out of Manila, since their arrival in the Philippines last September.
Isabel Echevarria opened a one-woman painting exhibit at the foyer of the Casino Español de Cebu as part of its Spanish Month celebration. Titled “Morena,” it depicted varied ethnic portraits which attracted art collectors. Isabel is currently based in the Canary Islands, Spain.
Granted the success of its Talents Night a year ago, the Casino Español de Cebu had a second exposure of members and their dependents in a variety show which generated much anticipation.
Casino Español de Cebu presented “An Evening of Fun with Pinky Marquez” at its ballroom, Salon de España. It was more, much more, than fun. A “compleat” show one might say, using the Shakespeare spelling. Pinky had some take-offs on the Queen’s language that were absolutely hilarious.
