There was a time in Manila when most of the Chinese restaurants had the same level of quality. Not that they weren’t any good—they just weren’t as authentic tasting as the ones we discovered later on in Hong Kong.
As a young boy, I considered Kowloon House my only exposure to good Chinese food. It was a treat whenever there was a family celebration. Many authentic Chinese restaurants have opened since then but Kowloon will always be comfort Chinese food to me.
When Japanese ramen arrived in the local culinary scene, Filipino foodies received it with much glee and hungry tummies.
Hong Kong cuisine is one of my favorites. In Manila, we have a lot of good Chinese restaurants. I classify them as either Filipinized Chinese or authentic Hong Kong standard Chinese.
