Do you ever wonder what’s so cool about cosplay conventions? It’s more than just seeing your favorite animé characters springing to life. Though that alone is a great motivation to go, there are many other reasons why people find it awesome—from art, to entertainment, and even business!
Some of us might see “cosplay” as something like wearing costumes for Halloween. But that isn’t the case. My friend and I recently went to the first ever Comic Convention of DLSU, in partnership with The Student Media Office and Malate Literary Folio. The participants described “cosplaying” very differently.
As soon as my friends told me about the anime convention happening on the weekend of Jan. 21 at SM Megamall, I immediately made plans to be there, even if it meant swinging by in between my Suzuki piano lessons and my orthodontist appointment (and dragging my mom along).
It was all about Alodia’s fantasy that night. Alodia Gosiengfiao, dubbed as Cosplay Queen of the Philippines, launched the first-ever online cosplay show in the Philippines called “Alodia’s Fantasy” held recently at ICON Ultimate Club, InterContinental Manila.

It’s every cosplayer’s fantasy. Donning their best costumes, cosplayers gathered to the opulent Fernbrook Gardens on July 23 to attend Fantasy Quest, an event hosted by Cosplay Network Philippines in cooperation with Fernbrook Gardens, Anime Alliance and Ormagn Eventures.
