One afternoon toward the end of 2011, I answered the door to receive a FedEx package that arrived overnight from Los Angeles. The name belonged to someone I had known a long time ago.
THE WEEK is over. Finally. It was hectic and felt like there were not enough hours to do what had to be done—to clear my old agenda, empty drawers, throw old papers and, most important of all, bring an important project to a successful close after almost two years of hard work.
It is said that if you have one good friend in your lifetime, you have been richly blessed. I take that to mean that it is difficult, or way near impossible, to find one. If this is true, then I am super blessed.
If you have been to the United States—or were a fan of the 1990s hit sitcom “Friends”— you would have heard of Pottery Barn, the American furniture and home accessories specialty store set to open its first shop in the Philippines on May 9.
Remember that episode of “Friends,” where Joey Tribbiani puts his book copy of “The Shining” in the freezer so it won’t scare him? That wasn’t an exaggeration—Stephen King’s horror novel is really that frightening.
I am looking for my friend. In spite of the social networks today drawing families from the far reaches of the world, finding long lost classmates and even tracking down errant lovers, I still have had no success locating Maria Luisa.
Being bedridden isn’t as bad as I thought it would be, especially if one can enjoy the benefits of Korean cable TV, haha. But that’s another article that I’ll save for another time.
