We high-school classmates are celebrating birthdays again, and more regularly. At our age, after all, every birthday has become a milestone.
As the Ateneo de Naga HS Class ’62 celebrates its 50th graduation anniversary, it is but fitting that our class pays tribute to one member who turned out to be our brightest star and one of the school’s most outstanding and most accomplished alumni.
Timely advice to single ladies: Attend your high school reunion; you just might find a new love there. Ask former Social Security System president Corazon de la Paz-Bernardo, who married high school classmate Enrique V. Bernardo, President and Commissioner of ANZ Bank in Jakarta, Indonesia, 51 years after they graduated from Rizal High School, once the world’s largest high school in terms of enrolment.
Their teachers cursed them, saying they’d never amount to anything. Ateneo High School Class 4E batch ‘86 was raunchy but harmless. Blame it on hyperactive adolescent testosterones. Everyday was like a scene from “Iskul Bukol” meets “National Lampoon.” Before the era of iPhones, BBs and other techno-toys, the students had only their unbridled imaginations and lack of inhibitions.
