Truly there is no place like it. Whatever they say about the United States, or any other country for that matter, it is only when you set foot on Philippine soil, sopping wet and flooded as it has been a bit too often lately, that you feel that warm and fuzzy feeling of home.
I am still on a “homecoming high.” I am likely to go on and on about how much fun it was and how good it felt, and I will probably bore you to tears.

Christmas in the Philippines is the most anticipated event for many Filipinos living and working overseas; at no other season does everything of value and meaning for Filipinos come together in one joyous package: family and friends, religious faith, and food! “I’m coming home.” It sounds like the person speaking can hardly get the words out fast enough; like there is a breathless anticipation of good things. It tells me that the traveler is done with roaming. There is a time for traipsing about, and a time to come home. When I set down my bags after a long trip, I have no intentions of picking them up again, at least not right away.
