You’d think an event that advocates breast cancer awareness would be a subdued affair.

Established in 1999 by breast cancer survivors Kara Magsanoc-Alikpala and Crisann Celdran, ICanServe Foundation is an advocacy group that provides hope and help for at-risk women by championing awareness and early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
You know what they say about being on the outside looking in? That was how I used to report on breast cancer and one of its most well-known organizations of survivors, the nonstock, nonprofit ICanServe Foundation, Inc.
The pillars of business and society and other powerful A-listers were welcomed by First Life president and CEO Peter Coyiuto to his company’s hot series of business forums at Manila Polo Club in Makati.
We never would have guessed that a group interview with breast cancer survivors would be as hilarious as it was poignant. But as breast cancer survivors Bibeth Orteza Siguion-Reyna, Kara Magsanoc Alikpala, Melissa de Leon and Maritoni Fernandez revealed during this animated discussion—it was to promote Silver Linings, the educational forum and homecoming for breast cancer survivors staged by the ICanServe Foundation, on Sept. 17 at Grand Regal Hotel in Davao City—a sense of humor, among other strengths, can help carry you through.
