For its final offering this 39th season, Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas stages âBilanggo ng Pag-ibig,â an innovative piece largely based on Jean Genetâs last major book âUn Captif Amoureux (Prisoner of Love)â. The piece is written by Rody Vera and directed by JosĂ© Estrella.

âAdarna,â the recent Dulaang UP production of the well-known Filipino folk tale that was adapted for the stage by playwright Vlad Gonzales and directed by JosĂ© Estrella, turned out to be more of a coming-of-age story of its young princely hero Don Juan (Fitz Bitaña). Perhaps it would have been more accurate to retitle it to something akin to the seemingly impossible labors of Hercules, or the wondrous journey of Odysseus.
Be enthralled by the colorful creatures of Philippine folk literature and mythology as the UP Playwrightsâ Theater puts the spotlight once again on âUmaaraw Umuulan Kinakasal ang Tikbalang,â Dulaang UPâs hit production last season. The play is adapted from Gilda Cordero-Fernando's childrenâs short story âThe Magic Circle,â written by Rody Vera and directed by JosĂ© Estrella.
