Rody Vera’s Filipino adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s ‘Peer Gynt’ takes you on a journey–and what a journey it is
‘Forrest Gump’? ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’? ‘Peer Gynt’ may be the story you’ve always loved, but never heard of–but Rody Vera’s adaptation may change that

For its final offering this 39th season, Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas stages “Bilanggo ng Pag-ibig,” an innovative piece largely based on Jean Genet’s last major book “Un Captif Amoureux (Prisoner of Love)”. The piece is written by Rody Vera and directed by José Estrella.

“Adarna,” the recent Dulaang UP production of the well-known Filipino folk tale that was adapted for the stage by playwright Vlad Gonzales and directed by José Estrella, turned out to be more of a coming-of-age story of its young princely hero Don Juan (Fitz Bitaña). Be enthralled by the colorful creatures of Philippine folk literature and mythology as the UP Playwrights’ Theater puts the spotlight once again on “Umaaraw Umuulan Kinakasal ang Tikbalang,” Dulaang UP’s hit production last season. The play is adapted from Gilda Cordero-Fernando’s children’s short story “The Magic Circle,” written by Rody Vera and directed by José Estrella.
