In celebration of the 102nd birth anniversary of the late National Artist for Music Lucio San Pedro, the local government of Angono in Rizal province and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) staged on Feb. 11 a concert honoring the composer and conductor.
The Lopez Museum & Library and Orchestra of the Filipino Youth (OFY) will pay tribute to the late National Artist for Music Lucio D. San Pedro with a concert on April 5 at 2 p.m. at the museum.
In celebration of the birth centenary of National Artist for Music Lucio San Pedro, the Pasig City Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PCEMPC), with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), will present a choral concert featuring the maestro’s works and arrangements on Dec. 3, 6 p.m., at Tanghalang Pasigueño.
Hosted by Lisa Macuja and produced by the Manila Broadcasting Company, “Art 2 Art” airs every Sunday, 3:30-4 p.m., on DZRH (666 khz on the AM band) and on cable television via RHTV. It can also be viewed simultaneously on the Internet through DZRH live streaming at www.dzrh.com.ph.
CHALLENGE: Name at least five national artists of the Philippines. This shouldn’t be hard since there are over 50 national artists in different fields like dance, theater and film, and visual arts. If you can’t name even one, then you seriously need to refresh your memory.
The composer-choirmaster Jerry A. Dadap often tells this anecdote about two National Artists for Music: Lucio D. San Pedro, composer, and Levi Celerio, lyricist. The two created the immortal song “Sa Ugoy ng Duyan,” that paean to mother’s love.
