In lieu of a catwalk, stylist-consultant Noel Manapat and his team transformed the basement of Bench Tower into “The Showroom.” It became the venue of its first presentation featuring models wearing the five brands.
The SM Mall of Asia Arena, venue of the December 30 wedding reception of actors Dingdong Dantes and Marian (Rivera) Gracia, can accommodate as many as 16,000 for basketball matches and concerts. The challenge for the wedding production team led by creative director Noel Manapat and production designer Gino Gonzales was to make this cavernous location look intimate and elegant—and dramatic.
A big fashion event organized by society icon and Inquirer Lifestyle columnist Tessa Prieto-Valdes and philanthropist Kaye Tiñga will be held Oct. 18 at the Rizal Ballroom of Makati Shangri-La.
They are neither model-tall nor thin, but when a middle-age corn vendor, two embroiderers, a farmer tending her rice paddy, an art teacher, and other everyday people were approached by photographer Jay Yao and asked to pose for pictures sporting couture by Filipino designers Joey Samson and Lesley Mobo, everyone was game to do it.
So what does it take to be a fashion stylist? Noel Manapat says it pays to get some formal training, noting that local fashion schools now offer courses on the subject (he taught fashion styling in courses organized by fashion designers Lulu Tan-Gan and Inno Sotto).
Stylists are envied for the glamour of their jobs. But like in any field, there are a few rotten apples that give stylists a bad name.
