(Part two) One of the things that Western investigators fail to notice is the context of the healing activity of the so-called faith healers and psychic surgeons of the Philippines.
How do we know if what we know is real or true? In a recent forum I was invited to talk about this question, I used the controversial phenomenon of psychic surgery, which our local faith healers perform on patients, to provide answers.
He makes the blind see, the paralytic walk, the deaf hear. He heals all kinds of illnesses through bare-hand psychic surgery, reads people’s minds, and sees the future.
One question that has been bugging me for years is why no researcher or medical scientist has ever been able to explain adequately the phenomenon of paranormal healing in general, and psychic surgery in particular.
I was recently interviewed by a 30-year-old Swiss graduate student of anthropology on the topic “Paranormal Anthropology,” and specifically zeroing in on psychic surgery in the Philippines and Brazil, the two countries in the world where this practice is most prevalent or well-known.
I believe that any discussion about mystical and paranormal happenings in the Philippines will not be complete without mentioning the most sensational and controversial form of faith healing, which can only be found in the Philippines—namely, bare-handed psychic surgery.
If you ask any knowledgeable doctor what the possible causes of man’s illness are, he will most likely enumerate any or a combination of the following: pathogens, such as bacteria, microbes, virus, etc.; allergens like pollen, dust, cigarette smoke, carcinogens; or cancer producing chemicals or materials.
