It’s officially summer, with temperatures hitting the mid-30s. Many will most likely be heading to the beaches, as we have some of the best in the world. But how about going to higher ground instead to explore the Cordillera Mountains, site of our world-famous rice terraces?
Nestled high in the Cordillera Mountains is the small, sleepy town of Sagada. It’s funny that, despite its size and remote location, it is a popular destination for tourists and extreme sports enthusiasts.
I had promised myself that I should see the Banaue Rice Terraces, and soon. My nationalistic conscience bothered me when friends from foreign lands would ask me if I had been to this wonder of the world. When that happens, I change the subject matter to other places like Batanes and Tawi-Tawi, faraway places I had been to, which, at the time, almost no one had visited yet.
