Manila paper? My maid looked blankly at me, then declared firmly, No such thing! No one knew what Manila paper was?!
I grade school in prewar St. Theresa’s, our chaplain, Fr. Vromant, brought large cardboard teaching aids to religion class. They were posters from Belgium, vividly illustrated scenes from the Old Testament.
While I was foraging on the highest of my bookshelves, a Jurassic yearbook fell on my lap. In it we were Fourth Grade, all holding diplomas. There were several graduations then—primary or Fourth Grade, elementary or Sixth Grade, and Fourth Year High School.
