Last year the Philippines set a new world record for holding the biggest Zumba class, when 8,232 fans danced their way to fitness at SM City Cebu, dislodging the record once held by India in 2012 that saw 6,671 participants. This year, Beto Perez, the creator and cofounder of the Latin-inspired fitness workout, finally visited and gave fans the Zumba party of their lives.

Zumba Fitness instructors worldwide are not only using a Latin-heavy song lineup in their classes, they’re also creating new fans for artists such as Pitbull, Daddy Yankee and Don Omar.
Zumba, the dance-cum-cardio workout, is all about having fun while burning 300 to 800 calories an hour. Hence the slogans “Party yourself into shape” and “Ditch the workout, join the party.”
It was the year that saw people strutting, shaking, spinning and shimmying their way to slimmer bodies and healthier lifestyle. Zumba ruled the fitness scene in 2012. The calorie-burning, Latin-inspired dance fitness exercise introduced in the country two years ago became an even bigger hit this year, going beyond the gyms and straight into company-sponsored workout programs and even into the homes of many Filipinos.
