STEPHEN King’s “Carrie” gets a big-screen remake in the same year his frightening tome, “The Shining,” gets a sequel. We’ll finally see a grown up Danny Torrance in “Doctor Sleep” and find out just how much of the horrors he endured in the Overlook Hotel lingered in his psyche.

While 2012, the year of the black water dragon, was certainly rewarding, mesmerizing us with its fascination with brocade, fur and leather, we anticipate that 2013, the year of the snake, will be as amazing, too, or even better.

A brand-new year is here, and like clockwork it’s time to start on a fresh list of resolutions. Yes, this year we’re curbing all kinds of bad beauty behavior that’s been causing us to break out, look outdated and feel lethargic.

I’m starting with everything positive this year. All my negativeness last year has been completely deleted from my being.

The signs are unmistakable: the Philippine economy is on the upswing, with consumer confidence reflecting the surge in terms of an improved bottom line for the country’s biggest retailers compared to last year.
From too many burritos to puzzling molecular gastronomy to boring mall food that made up our meals in 2012, we’re moving on to heritage, history and a huge helping of creative food concepts. It’s going to be a great year!

“LES MISÉRABLES.” “Ate Pam, why did they move it?” my younger cousin Ina wailed at me during our Christmas lunch. I couldn’t blame her; I’ve been excited to watch it, too. The wait is almost over. Almost. On January 16, we will finally be able to watch Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russel Crowe, Amanda Seyfried et al in the film version of “Les Misérables” and see what everyone has been raving about.

A sophomore audio offering, a comebacker’s CD, plus someone’s 26th album. What do they have in common? They’re all coming out this year—and we can’t wait to plug in our earphones and give them a listen.

Thanks to talent searches on TV, we now have more exciting music acts to watch out for in the coming months. And we’re not even talking about just the winners of these shows, because there are also great (even better, actually) contestants that didn’t bag the top prize yet still show so much promise. And let’s not forget some newbies that started to make noise last year. Basing on their initial efforts and the entire buzz, it looks like we’ll be hearing more from them this 2013.
