After the pioneering appointment of James Charles as its first ever “CoverBoy,” CoverGirl has appointed another brand ambassador, a Muslim beauty video blogger.
Just like Charles, hijab-wearing Nura Afia regularly demonstrates her glamorous makeup tutorials for her cherished 214,000 subscribers on YouTube and 305,000 followers on Instagram. Just a few weeks ago, she uploaded another shining artwork clip instructing viewers to achieve a Full Glam Fall look.
“I never thought I would see Muslim women represented on such a large scale,” Afia said in an interview with Refinery 29, elucidating that she felt insecure about using a headscarf. “I hope [this campaign] will show Muslim women that brands care about us as consumers and we’re important, especially hijabis can be featured on TV, can be featured on billboards in Times Square, can be represented.”

Afia is a Colorado, USA-based makeup artist and a mother to a 5-year-old daughter. “I’m doing this because I want there to be a time when my daughter grows up when she knows she can be anything she wants to be,” she asserted to the news site.
Besides Charles, she stands alongside actress Sofia Vergara, pop icon Katy Perry, DJ-actress Amy Pham and star duo Chloe and Halle in endorsing the cosmetic brand’s latest eyelash product, “So Lashy! BlastPro Mascara.” Also, Afia and Charles’ makeup creations will be filmed and broadcast in New York Times Square and other billboards across the country. Gianna Francesca Catolico
