Lauren Kate, the author of the “Fallen” series, met with several fans during a meet-and-greet session at Glorietta 5, Makati on Monday, Nov. 7.

The California-based fictionist was accompanied by Harrison Gilbertson, who plays the character of Cameron “Cam” Briel in the film adaptation of “Fallen,” which will screen in Philippine movie houses this week. It was directed by Scott Hicks and produced by the pioneers behind the “Twilight” saga.

All of the “Fallenatics,” or avid readers of Kate’s bestseller series, curiously jabbed questions about the upcoming film “Fallen” and Kate’s inspirations for her young adult fiction novels.

When asked by one fan if she received suggestions from readers on how the story “should” end, Kate expressed that a lot rooted for an engrossing and “leveled up” intimacy between Daniel and Luce, the main protagonists of the film and series. “Everybody’s gunning for Daniel and Lucie to have a baby, and we all, but [as] that’s maybe for the fan fiction to write. For me, Lucie and Daniel ’s story ended exactly where it ended,” she said.

Also, she narrated about how her daughters served as a source of inspiration and strength for her timeless works. She explained, “I’ve got two little babies I’ve been missing on pretty hard. I’m immensely proud of the work I have done, great felt to the people I got to meet at work, but in terms of accomplishments, nothing tops than the two of them.”

With his flashy grin, Australian-born Gilbertson differentiated himself from Cam, the fallen angel he portrayed in the film adaptation.

“[For] Cam, I think his determination [and] what he wants from reality is different from my determination,” he said. “I think everyone is lured to the dark side and some of us explore the dark.”

The meet and greet was hosted by Kapuso TV host Iya Villania-Arellano, who recently welcomed her firstborn, a boy, with Drew Arellano last August.

In the novel, Lucinda “Luce” Price (Addison Timlin) enters Sword & Cross reform school after she is blamed for killing her crush, Trevor. Upon entering school, she felt an unexplainable connection with Cam and Daniel Grigori (Jeremy Irvine), and a bewitching tale of fallen angels and falling in love blossoms.
