After their visit to Siargao Island last weekend, 11 candidates of the upcoming Miss Universe pageant on Monday toured two famous tourist attractions in Manila.
The candidates—representatives from Korea, Japan, Philippines, USA, New Zealand, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, China, and Vietnam—paid a visit to the walled city of Intramuros and Rizal Park.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) said the beauty queens went to the Lights and Sound Museum, tried Filipino delicacies like bibingka and puto bumbong, and rode the traditional kalesa or horse-drawn carriage, and witnessed regional performances in Intramuros.
“The Department of Tourism (DOT) welcomes the first batch of Ms. Universe 2016 candidates. And this is just a preview of what is to come for the world to see. As we showcase the beauty of our beloved country, the Philippines, it is also important for us make sure to accord them with Filipino hospitality,” said Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo.
The candidates also paid their respects to national hero Jose Rizal in a wreath-laying ceremony in Luneta.
