The country’s bet Maxine Medina may not have won the Miss Universe title — but at least she was able to unite the country.

Filipinos who watched the Miss Universe coronation night on Monday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena said Medina at least fulfilled her vow of uniting the nation even though she failed to clinch a back-to back-victory after the country’s queen Pia Wurtzbach.

During the question and answer portion, Medina was asked about the most significant event to her in the past decade.

Medina said it was the Miss Universe pageant that was a significant event to her for uniting the Philippines.

“In the last 10 years of being here in the world, I saw that all the people bring in one event like this Miss Universe. And it’s something big to us, that we are one as one nation, that we are all together,” Medina said.

For Gerald Pacson from Marikina who watched at the general admission, he said Medina did not disappoint him in her question and answer portion.

“Kahit ang daming bash against her, natawid naman niya ang sagot. Maganda yung message ng sagot niya (Even though a lot of people bashed her, she still carried it off. The message of her answer was good). I’m still proud of her, Maxine for the win pa rin,” Pacson said.

While others were saying Medina’s answer was off-tangent to the question, Pecson said Medina was able to answer it well.

“Totoo namang nag-unite. Tingnan mo naman ngayon, nag-unite tayo sa Miss Universe, after ilang years (It’s true that we united. Lool at us, we united for Miss Universe, after how many years),” Pecson said.

Ivan Malapit meanwhile said she may not have been a fan of Medina, but at least the country’s bet was able to unite the constituents.

Medina may have sashayed well during the swimsuit and long gown competition, but she flopped during the question and answer portion, Malapit said.

“I think she really sashayed with the evening gown and swimsuit portion. You have the first test, and the aura of the beauty queen. But of course, the word of everybody is her wit apparently. And unfortunately, she kind of failed as of that one,” Malapit said.

“The thing was, I don’t think she was able to answer the question in the most straightforward and concise manner,” he added.

Medina made it to the top six of the Miss Universe competition held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Monday. She fell out of the top three after the question and answer portion. JE/rga
