Japanese bus company Willer Travel is rolling out a unique sightseeing bus that offers fine dining services while on the move and as passengers take in the scenery.
The bus is a double deck custom open-top vehicle that features a sway-proof dining area on the top floor and a mobile kitchen at the bottom. It has the capacity for 25 people, reports RocketNews24.
The program is currently on a trial run in Tokyo and the full service will be launched in the Niigata prefecture for April through June of this year. The theme is “matsuri” or festival, thus, the interior of the bus is decked with traditional festival lanterns and flags.
As for the menu, the trial program features a generous amount of Niigata’s famous sake, terrine of Sado Island’s black pork, deep fried northern shrimp from the Sea of Japan, farm-fresh sautéed vegetables, and risotto made of Koshihikari rice. Actual tours will feature additional courses, including a tartlet made from Echigohime strawberries.
Interested travelers may choose from two available courses on Willer’s English website. These are both offered every Saturday within the program period. As an extra treat, travelers will also be taken on a tour of the region’s food and beverage makers, and the prefecture’s famous tourist sites.
Tours cost 15,210 yen (roughly P6,700) per person and will depart from the Niigata Station.
