Mason is a twenty-year-old slackliner from Berkeley, California.

Slacklining is an extreme sport where practitioners balance and walk on a rope or strip of webbing fixed high above ground. The rope or strip is not stretched or anchored too taut between two points, unlike tightrope walking. It is generally more popular in Europe but has recently been attracting interest in the United States.

According to National Geographic, Mason walked a total of 150 feet while his surroundings became enveloped in darkness due to the eclipse.

Photographer Ladzinski said Mason, “just kept walking, almost braille-ing his way across this thing with his feet.”

Apart from photographers, Red Bull was also present to capture the moment on film at Jackson Hole, Wyoming, up to when the moon completely passed across the sun.

At age 13, Mason became one of the youngest slackliners to do a backflip while crossing. Since then, he has traveled all over Europe and South America while participating in various slackline competitions. Alfred Bayle/JB
