Fashion designer Joey Samson may be known for his androgynous, minimalist aesthetics, but he proved his versatility Saturday night at the Red Charity Gala 2017, held at the grand ballroom of Shangri-La at The Fort, Taguig.

Samson, the annual gala’s ninth featured designer, proved his mettle in his 49-piece monastic-inspired collection that showed him stepping out of his comfort zone, with several pieces that used sequins and beadwork, prints and jewel tones aplenty.

The designer stayed true to his work’s DNA, however—his deconstruction of forms and modern aesthetics were evident, even when he was experimenting with materials alien to his usual work.

Directed by Robby Carmona with styling by Noel Manapat, and hair and makeup by Henri Calayag, Red Charity Gala was presented by Bench for the Benefit of Philippine National Red Cross and Assumption HS 81 Foundation. Philippine Daily Inquirer and Inquirer Red were media sponsors.
