Motorcycle ‘jacket’ makes riders look like mattresses on wheels

For other countries, riding a motorcycle during winter time can be challenging due to the cold air rushing past them.

This common problem has inspired a Chinese company to create a special body jacket to keep scooter riders warm while out and about on their two-wheelers.

The jacket covers the entire front part of the body of the rider, and works to deflect the oncoming cold air. Protection even extend to the handlebars. Apart from keeping the wind at bay, the jacket also comes with waterproofing features. It also protects against dirt and snow. The inside has been lined with soft material to provide comfort, as well as warmth for long trips on the road.

Apart from the primary features, the jacket comes lined with reflective bands as a traffic safety measure.

While warmth may not be an issue with this scooter jacket, safety could be worth looking into. Its bulk alone could make it difficult for the wearer-rider to maneuver the scooter properly, which may ultimately cause an accident. It also makes the rider look like a sleeping mattress on wheels.

The jacket could be purchased through Chinese online market TMall for a price tag as reasonable as 26.9 yuan (about P200).

Despite the seeming absurdity, its TMall posting has clocked in around 80,000 units sold per month. It appears the Chinese may actually be finding the product useful. JB
