MANILA, Philippines — Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray marked the fulfilment of her mother’s dream as she was crowned with the prestigious title on Monday.
“When I was 13, my mum told me ‘Honey, I dreamt of you winning @missuniverse in a red dress,’” Gray wrote in an Instagram post, referring to her mother Normita Magnayon Gray.
The 24-year-old beauty queen added: “At that time I thought nothing of it, and today my mother’s dream came true.”
In the same post, Gray thanked God for her victory, saying “Where do I even begin? Lord God, I lift everything up to you – to glorify and honor you.”
She also spoke of pride to be the country’s representative in the international pageant.
“Philippines. What an amazing honor it has been to carry your name across my chest and to embody you in all aspects,” Gray said.
She added, “I may now carry the sash of Miss Universe, but I’ll forever be your Miss Philippines.”
Gray also gave special mentions to her team, saying “I wouldn’t have been able to do any of this with all your time, effort and love.”
She is the fourth Filipina Miss Universe titleholder, following Pia Wurtzbach (2015), Margie Moran (1973), and Gloria Diaz (1969). /cbb
