A young boy from Lafayette, Indiana in the United States was having trouble with his math homework, specifically on fractions, so he called 911 for help.

The recorded exchange between the young boy and 911 dispatcher Antonia Bundy was shared on Twitter by the Lafayette Indiana Police Department on Friday, Jan. 25.

The Lafayette police department does not recommend calling 911 when it comes to help with homework, although they nevertheless paid homage to Bundy for helping the young boy and brightening his day.

In the recording, the unidentified young boy can be heard telling Bundy he had a bad day.

“I had a really bad day and… I just, I don’t know…” he hesitated.

“You had a bad day at school?” asked the concerned Bundy.

“Yeah, I just came to tell you that.”

Bundy then asked him what happened at school that made him have a bad day, to which the boy replied with, “I just have tons of homework.”

He said he was bad in math and bemoaned that his homework, which was on fractions, was “so hard,” compelling Bundy to step in and help him solve the problem.

“What’s 3/4 plus 1/4?” he asked.

Bundy patiently guided the young boy through the question and upon solving it, commended him for a job well done. The boy, in the end, thanked her and also apologized for calling her.

“I’m sorry for calling you, but I really needed help,” he said.

The innocent conversation has since moved the hearts of netizens who listened to it, praising Bundy for helping the boy overcome his obstacle.

“911 is the center of emergencies. This dispatcher clearly understands that it may not be an emergency to us, but it is to somebody,” wrote one Terin Hopkins (@thop264) on Jan. 27. “Great job helping this very stressed young man in his time of need.”

“That was extra sweet! I commend the operator for helping the young man and not being mean and snapping out on him!” said a certain Danetta Dupree (@danetta dupree) on Jan. 26. “You have a great heart!”

Bundy has been a 911 dispatcher in the department since April 2016, as per Lafayette Police Sgt. Matt Gard via NBC News on Jan. 29. The call was made last Jan. 14.

“She’s always very dedicated to what she does,” Gard was quoted as saying. “They do receive some oddball requests, but this situation of calling asking for homework help — I’ve been in law enforcement for 13 years and I don’t know I’ve ever heard of this happening.”

The boy did not cause any disruption, Gard added, as the call was made at a time when the dispatchers were not so busy. Cody Cepeda/JB
