Authorities in Dalston, United Kingdom broke inside an art gallery in response to a witness who reported about a dead body in an exhibit — but the supposed corpse turned out to be only a dummy.

CCTV footage from The Factory Gallery showed a policeman smashing a glass door with a crowbar, and hurriedly rushing into a room. He then inspects a figure then leaves, as reported by the London Evening Standard last Monday, Feb. 18.

Police apparently discovered that the reported corpse was only “a bundle of paper and wires wrapped in clothes.”

The dummy was part of an exhibition about the experiences of refugees in Britain, run by 36-year-old Kollier Din Bangura.

“I have used the same dummy before in other shows but this is the first time it’s caused police to be called,” Din Bangura said. He added that when he saw the smashed door, he thought the place had been vandalized. But the police left a note explaining to him what happened.

“It’s a mistake by a member of the public who has seen it through the window when they are walking past,” he said. “Or it could even be a prank by someone who wants to sabotage my work.”

Din Bangura also noted that there were posters on each door stating an art exhibition was being hosted. “I just wish they had looked at them and contacted the building’s owner before smashing through the door,” he added. Katrina Hallare/JB
