A typical fanmeet lasts about an hour and a half, maybe three to five songs and plenty of aegyos. But Park Bo-gum is not your typical South Korean actor.
He sang, danced, rapped, played the piano, sang in English and Filipino, answered questions and spoke in English. He made all his fans from the VIP sections to the Lowerbox area feel important. And then, he kept performing all through the night that it felt like a concert rather than a fanmeet. The entire event lasted for about three hours. Four or more hours if you count the time he spent backstage for the hi-touch which everyone got to participate in.
When “Showtime” host Anne Curtis-Smith asked him what is it that he wants to do in Manila, he knew exactly what to say.
“Actually, I am doing it already. I am having a good day with you guys,” Bo-gum said smiling.
The actor’s fanmeet is titled “May your every day be a Good Day” or “Good Day” for short. Park Bo-gum named the event himself. It was held at the Mall of Asia Arena yesterday, June 22. It was produced by Ovation Productions and ABS-CBN Events in partnership with Blossom Entertainment and presented by TNT.
The tour started in Seoul and Manila is its last stop.
A family in the future
He opened the show with Day6’s “I like you”. He came out like the perfect gentleman in his coat and tie. The notes to the song were hit perfectly. He also nailed the long pause before the final stanza. Through the song, he confessed to everyone that he likes them.
Anne joined him after the first song. Bo-gum introduced himself formally to his fans as “your boyfriend”. The Korean translation of the word “boyfriend” is the also the Korean title of the drama “Encounter”. Song Hye-kyo is his partner there. The show will be aired in ABS-CBN soon.
She also asked him to name three things that he wants to do before he reaches 40.
“Only three things? Of course, get married and have a baby. Second, I want to study abroad and the third one would be is to act in a foreign film. I do not know when it will be but I really want to do a foreign film,” he said.
The two also talked about “Encounter” onstage. Park Bo-gum reveals that he does not drink alcohol. Thus, he practiced the scene his drunk scenes in the drama several times.
He also acted out poses from the drama “Encounter” with three lucky fans. He gave away plenty of signed merchandise to some fans including a calendar and the “2 Days and 1 Night” shirt.
Manila in a candle
Bo-gum played candle-maker onstage by mixing a “Manila” scent. The audience were asked to choose from the other options like Love and Encounter. He made his candle look like a beach by placing sand at the bottom. Miniatures watermelon, banana, durian and musical notes were carefully placed on top of the sand. He chose the jasmine scent and mixed it with wax and glitters before he poured it over the signed jar.
He said his farewell to Anne. Took a break to change costume and it was Park Bo-gum show all the way.
He danced to popular Kpop songs like Twice’s “What is Love?”, Seventeen’s “Pretty U” and B. BTS’ “Boy With Luv”. He sang his own songs like “Let’s go see the stars.” The song “I will be here” by Steven Curtis-Chapman and covered by Gary Valenciano was also performed.
Teacher V
“Am I good at dancing?” he asked the fans. They, in turn, shouted a deafening yes. He continued, “I am not good at dancing yet. Actually, ‘Tae-Tae’ helped me with the dance. So I learned a lot from my dance teacher. Taehyung taught me while we were in Busan.”
The actor was spotted earlier this month with friend and BTS member Tae-hyung, more popularly known as V, drinking melon juice in Busan.
He told everyone to remember that he will always be there before he left the stage.
“Take care of yourself and may God bless you all,” he said.
Just like a real K-pop concert, Park Bo-gum also gave away 200 signed balls to his fans. Everyone who attended got to give him a high five. He did it with so much joy and sincerity. Everyone also received a sealed envelope from him, just like the good boyfriend that he is. He was smiling and told everyone, “Have a good day.”
Indeed, it was.
