#Ghosting tops Twitter trends after Bea Alonzo’s revelation

Let us all hold hands in solidarity with Bea Alonzo. The award-winning actress, despite all her accomplishments onscreen, is a victim of a real 21st-century horror: ghosting.

In a press conference, Alonzo spoke her truth about her and Gerald Anderson. “To my understanding, we did not break up. He just started not talking to me.”

Ouch.

Anderson, who’s allegedly in a new relationship with Julia Barretto, has got a lot of explaining to do.

While we wait for Anderson or Barretto to air their side of the story, #ghosting is the top trending topic on Twitter with 11,000 tweets and counting as of press time.

The tweets are often humorous. A lot express their sympathies to Alonzo, sharing their own ghosting experiences. Other tweets have slammed Anderson. It hasn’t been a good week for the ‘Between Maybes‘ star, who’s been called a cheater in every other colorful meme you could think of.

Paulo Avelino, a Twitter hero, heralds the new cultural reference for this dating faux pas.

Angel Locsin and Loisa Andalio couldn’t help express how bold Avelino’s tweet is.

Social media and local celebrity culture went abuzz since a photo showing Gerald Anderson and Julia Barretto together quickly circulated. Bea Alonzo and Joshua Garcia then posted mysterious messages on their respective Instagram accounts hinting that betrayal occurred in their relationships.

It doesn’t help that Anderson has gained a reputation for being a ladies man. Former flames of Anderson include Maja Salvador and Kim Chiu.

With the slew of tweets still going up, perhaps there’s a lesson we can pick up here: Ghosting only works if you have a low-key profile. Not when you’re a national celebrity. And regardless of your fame, just don’t do it.
