Post-Manila FAME, here are the brands I’m stalking online

The 70th edition of Manila FAME wrapped up as quickly as it opened. At least that’s what it feels like to me. The three-day event isn’t enough to soak up the various lifestyle and design labels showcasing the best of Filipino style, ingenuity, and talent.

This year, Manila FAME played host to various creatives and brands with different sectors like Design Commune, a curated exhibition space under the creative direction of Vince Uy and Artisans Village, where exhibitors from Antique, Marawi, and Zamboanga showcased their distinct regional raw materials. There was also the Fashion E-Tailers space, a gathering of rising fashion entrepreneurs and designer commercial brands plus the Eco-Lifestyle Pavillion, a collection of Filipino goods.

Nevertheless, the trade fair and exhibit is but the start of finding brands to love the whole year round for different needs and occasions. What I like about going to Manila FAME is that my glossary of brands to shop from online grows. And since I saw the wares physically, I’m assured of the quality even if I’m getting them later online.

True enough, aside from spotting the new collections of long-time favorites like Vito Selma, Joanique, Maco Custodio, and Micki Olaguer, I was able to spot a few brands which I’ll be stalking especially as the holidays sneak up.

Baul

A line of bead bags by stylist Carla Villanueva, you’ll find quite a selection at Baul. It could be your next statement evening bag via pearl-adorned creations or something for your every day errands like the expandable net bag they released over the weekend.

Mayumi Organics

I’m a sucker for natural and organic products made in the Philippines. You find gems that are always welcome gifts or an item that will turn out to be part of your Holy Grail collection. I picked up the Tablea Mint Lip Scrub from the brand when I was at FAME, and I’m currently on their website, looking at their sulfate-free shampoo bars.

Strozzi Handcrafted Jewelry

I can’t get over how cute and quirky Strozzi pieces are. I picked up a pair of crab earrings made of brass and pawan shell. I had to stop myself from picking up other pieces like dangling earrings featuring pineapples and banana bunches. They also have mermaid and jeepney pins.

The School of Satchel

In need of a good bag that will never fail you? I would suggest looking at The School of Satchel. They produce bags in various designs from responsibly sourced real full-grain cowhide leather and are vegetable-tanned. Sold!

Nanay’s Bulad Flakes

I’ve been cheating on my diet by eating some pasta smothered in these dried fish flakes soaked in olive oil and spices. It’s gourmet goodness from Dumaguete. Need I say more?
