The ever health-conscious TV host and broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez-Roxas recently discussed the benefits that one can get out of taking collagen.
“How important is collagen to the body for youth and vitality? Is this even true?” she asked in an Instagram post today, Aug. 26.
As if to clarify speculations about side effects of collagen use, Roxas explained the things that collagen does to one’s body based on research and studies.
“Studies show that taking collagen supplements for several months improves skin elasticity, (i.e., wrinkles and roughness) and signs of aging (kaya, nagmumukhang bata ulit) (that’s why one looks younger again),” she said.
“Other studies show that consuming collagen can increase density in bones weakened with age (pampalakas ng tuhod kumbaga) (strengthening the knee, that is) and can improve joint, back and knee pain,” Sanchez added.
But there’s more, she said, as “collagen promotes healthy hair in many ways.”
“For one, your body may be able to use the amino acids in collagen to build hair proteins and strengthen the skin that contains your hair roots,” she explained. “It may also prevent hair follicle damage and graying, hindi agad mamumuti ang hair (hair will not turn gray quickly).”
Another supposed benefit is that it “promotes fullness and keeps our body feeling satisfied after a meal kaya nababawasan ang gutom at kain (that’s why hunger and more eating is reduced).”
But the most important benefit, she said, is from “the biological role of collagen,” being “responsible for the cohesion of tissues and organs” such as the heart, kidney and liver.
Aside from staying fit, Sanchez has been busy working on her former ABS-CBN show “Rated K” which has transitioned online. JB
