Laser treatments aren’t new. They’ve been around for quite a while in the dermatology industry. It’s why you’ve clicked on this article. There are a bunch of laser treatments out there with different names in every other skincare clinic. How does one go about choosing the treatment that suits your skin?
The first step is always to find a dermatologist you can trust. I usually go to Skin House Beauty and Laser Clinic. I trust their service as they follow strict protocols for sanitation and client safety. A day before your visit, you are asked to sign a few consent forms, and you are encouraged to settle the initial bill online. This is to avoid cash transactions. It’s also so you can go in and out without a worry since there’s no cue at the reception.
I’ve been trying out the Revlite laser treatment as advised by the dermatologist. This is after going through treatments to address my acne.
What is it?
It’s a very fine laser. I won’t bore you with the technical details and the jargon, but I leave this link to one of the leading manufacturers of the Revlite machine. The bottom line is that it makes your skin look better by stimulating collagen production.
What does it do?
Revlite addresses several skin concerns. Since it helps your skin produce more collagen—the essential protein that keeps skin looking youthful—it can reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It can also help shrink enlarged pores and lighten skin pigmentation. You can also expect it to help with acne scars and skin texture.
Why was it advised for you by the derma?
Revlite is an ideal follow-up treatment after you’ve dealt with active acne and other urgent skin disruptions. When I was advised to go for Revlite, my skin was dotted with the old pimple marks, some redness, and discoloration from the sun.
How long does one session take?
One session is less than 30 minutes for the face.
You mean you can have Revlite done on other parts of the body?
Yes! Once a client that went after my session wanted to get it on her hands and knuckles to address the darkness. All approved by the derma first, of course.
Does it hurt?
This is a tricky question. If you’ve never done a laser treatment before this, you may be a little taken aback by the slight pinpoint sensation. I believe that acne injection is still far more painful.
How many sessions do you need?
It depends on your derma’s approval. Usually, you will see results fully after two sessions, but you’re not advised to go beyond three sessions. Sessions are spaced at least two weeks apart.
What should you do before doing getting treatment?
Seventy-two hours before your session, you’ll be asked to stop using skin care products that contain kojic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid, tretinoin, among a few other prescription grade solutions. It’s why you should be honest with your derma on what you’re using.
Is there any downtime?
Nothing major. What’s crucial is the first three days. You’ll be advised only to use your gentle cleanser and to hold off using the other harsher products in your skincare routine. There will be some red spots on your face the day after your treatment. You’ll be given an anti-inflammatory cream for that. You’re reminded to wear sunscreen and to avoid the sun. You can’t go for rigorous exercise during this period as excessive sweating can interfere with your skin’s reaction to the laser.
What were the visible changes you noticed?
I noticed smoother skin just after one session. As I went back for sessions two and three, I could see how most of my dark spots were getting smaller. Any redness that was persistent before wasn’t as prominent.
What skincare products have you been using to maximize the results?
As with some of the questions above, I stress about always asking your derma about it. On a general note, always go for gentler solutions long after your Revlite treatment. Your skin is reactive. If you observe closely, you’ll be able to tell that when you treat it kindly, it will respond in the same manner.
