Safe space for stuff you are too ashamed to dispose of

Declutter and support art via Humble Sustainability, the startup founded by Niña Mirabueno Opida and Josef Werker, that collects junk for free. Here’s how:

• Book a free collection through humblesustainability.com, or @humblesustainability on Facebook and Instagram.

• Prepare the items. Humble Sustainability accepts everything, even stuff you are too ashamed to dispose of. Think of it as a safe space for all your clutter.

• The founders did not mention this, but perhaps give a tip to the collectors since they are doing this for free.

• The clutter will be sorted in a warehouse, and will either be reused, recycled or upcycled.

Partners include Kahon.ph storage service and Pilgrim BookStore. Among the beneficiaries are charities, such as Philippine Toy Library, Books for a Cause and The Plastic Flamingo social company that tackles marine plastic pollution. Some plastic will be turned into planks to build shelters.

Materials will also be upcycled into artworks, with collaborators, such as sustainable fashion designer Maco Custodio, artists Jinggoy Buensuceso, Anina Rubio and Leeroy New.

• Rebook. “Circular living is not a one-time thing, and we love the fact that this is really catching on. We have seen the same people booking monthly before, which is fantastic,” Werker said. INQ
