Up and coming singer Anji Salvacion believes in right timing and prayer as the best tools to realize one’s dreams.
As a member of Squad Plus — also composed of Angela Ken, KD Estrada and Sam Cruz — Salvacion is glad to finally be fulfilling her wish to become a singer.
“Every [person has] their right timing. If you pray what you really desire, God will really, really grant your wishes especially what you really desire, what your heart desires. Naniniwala ako sa (I believe) in right timing,” she said during the online press conference launch for the group on April 19.
Although Salvacion did not make the cut during the 2019 “Idol Philippines” competition, she is lucky to have been chosen to be a part of the new singing group.
“I didn’t expect na bigla na lang may tatawag sa akin, sasabihin na, ‘puwede ka ba naming isama sa Squad Plus.’ And then I was like, ‘sure ba ito?’” she recalled.
(I didn’t expect for someone to suddenly call me to ask, “Can we include you in Squad Plus?” And then I was like, “Is this for real?”)
“I am so very thankful to God because He has given me this opportunity. ABS-CBN has given me this opportunity. It’s just so overwhelming po and I feel so happy,” the young singer added.
While she was growing up and honing her singing, Salvacion was told by her mom to be “confident” and “be true to [her] voice.”
“Iba na kasi ‘yung mga kabataan like they copy. Medyo pare-pareho na ang voice nila. Minsan din there are some people na gumagaya sa voice ng ibang artists,” she noted.
(The young singers now are different, like they copy. It’s like their voices are all the same. Sometimes, there are also those who imitate the voice of other artists.)
“The only thing that I can say that is my edge is to experiment [in] new genres, new type of singing, like be versatile in everything. You know yourself as a singer,” Salvacion said.
Now that she’s on her way to becoming a full-fledged artist, Salvacion wants to improve her music skills by being a versatile performer.
“I want to learn new things especially [in] acting and [in] dancing,” she shared. JB
