Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a virtual press briefing on Wednesday that limited outdoor exercise is now allowed in cities that have transitioned to modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ). Citizens who live in these cities under this quarantine classification can now jog, run, walk and bike outside their homes as long as they wear a mask and distance themselves two meters apart.

Roque also said that residents who are under general community quarantine (GCQ) may participate in limited contact sports like golf and tennis. As for mass gatherings, citizens under MECQ are restricted to a maximum of five people while 10 people are allowed to gather for those under GCQ. Moreover, quarantine passes are still required for those who wish to participate in fitness activities under MECQ and GCQ.

Bicycles and e-scooters can be utilized for transportation under MECQ and GCQ, however, those who live in an MECQ area are only limited to one person per bike or e-scooter.

Gyms, fitness studios, and sports venues are still not allowed to operate for as long as people are in quarantine. Roque announced on May 12, Tuesday that Metro Manila, Cebu City, and Laguna will transition to MECQ.
