As a child, I remember the hit of dopamine I’d get whenever I was given a new toy. Nothing quite compared to the feeling of walking past the kid’s section and coming home with something new to fawn over. 

However, as we age, things obviously change. We outgrow toys and form attachments to other things. Personally speaking, as I dreadfully approach the age when I am now closer to 30 than I am to 18, I find myself obsessing over something I never thought I would before: homewares. 

From delicately blown glassware to playful plates reminiscent of the Italian gioia di vivere, here are five Australian homeware brands I have been absolutely hyperfixated on over the past few months. Apart from being visually stunning, every single one of these brands offers a diverse array of functional pieces.

 

Maison Balzac 

Created in 2012, Maison Balzac was founded by French-born Elise Pioch Balzac. The brand initially started off with a collection of five perfumed candles but has since expanded into a variety of delicately crafted homewares.
