Japanese automotive company is helping rebuild the lives of Taal eruption victims with P2 million donation

This year, instead of celebrating its annual media thanksgiving event, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) decided to tone things down, inviting media partners to a simple gathering. Newly-designated TMP president Atsuhiro Okamoto explained that this decision was made in light of the recent Taal volcano eruption, which displaced over 26,000 families in Batangas alone.

“We have decided to downscale this year’s party and reallocate funds to support the victims of the Taal Volcano eruption,” said Okamoto. The savings, which amounted to P2 million, will go to evacuees in regional relief centers in Batangas and Laguna.

Incidentally, the event was Okamoto’s first official media appearance after being appointed as TMP’s president-designate. “The eruption of Taal Volcano during my first month here in the Philippines is very unfortunate for many Filipinos, but it also shows the Filipino values of bayanihan and resilience,” he said.

The donation was made in the name of the media attendees. It’ll be allocated to getting the necessary supplies to support the evacuees in various centers in Batangas as well as to the Santa Rosa local government since the city is designated as CALABARZON’s regional evacuation center.
