Ever wondered why Manila City Hall is shaped like a coffin? This is just one of the things you’ll learn about in WanderManila’s “One Night in Manila” on Oct. 30

The country’s capital Manila holds a myriad stories from the past, from wars to rebellions and apocryphal accounts that continue to boggle the minds of the curious.

When you look at Manila City Hall from the top, for example, you can trace the shape of a coffin. There are “haunted” stories surrounding other sites, too, like the over-400-year-old University of Santo Tomas, or the walled city of Intramuros.

This Halloween, touring and experiential group WanderManila is unfolding these stories in a free virtual tour. “One Night in Manila,” happening on Oct. 30, explores the darker histories of Manila’s more iconic places and structures.

“Manila’s history has its share of violence and blood, of strife and death, and these acts echo well into the present, manifesting in various ways,” reads the tour’s page.

However, WanderManila says the virtual tour, which will be streamed on its Facebook page, is less about jump scares and more about history just like its virtual Halloween tour of Intramuros last year. “This is a history tour disguised as a Halloween event,” its organizers say. And yes, children can go watch along with adults.

“One Night in Manila” will take viewers into an immersive virtual tour of Escolta, Paco Park, Arroceros, and the University of Santo Tomas, among other sites, PhilStar Life reports.

There is no need to register for this free event. Just go to WanderManila’s Facebook page on Oct. 30 at 9 p.m. and prepare yourself—and some snacks, if you’d like to.
