Sam Penaso unveils his latest works of paintings and sculptures, “Ensemble,” at Blue + Gray Gallery (2/L, Shops at Serendra, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig), on Aug. 8, 6 p.m. Exhibit runs until Aug. 18.
For his paintings, Sam Penaso prepares his canvas with relief-like impressions by juxtaposing letters and number and paints with monochromatic hues before drawing the subjects. The embossed letters and numbers are seemingly stamped on their faces. This is to signify the wisdom gained and developed through the years.
Sculptures, Penaso’s latest exploration, are cut-up, reconfigured, matte-finished, free-standing steel pieces. Included is his very first recognized sculpture, “Sarimanok,” which won first prize in the 2012 Art Association of the Philippines Annual Art Competition.
