Gantimpala Theater once again gives life to José Rizal’s “Noli Me Tangere” through its stage version called “Kanser,” written by playwright Jomar Fleras and directed by Roobak Valle.
“Kanser” draws attention to “Noli’s” most iconic characters which were used by Rizal to expose the various ills of Philippine colonial society.
“We hope this stage version will assist students to better understand the novel that they are studying in school and, at the same time, make them realize that all the lessons from ‘Noli’ continue to be relevant, especially nowadays when graft and corruption is out of control,” says Valle. “We hope the play makes them think, discern and become more conscientious individuals.”
GMA7 actor Jay Gonzaga portrays Crisostomo Ibarra, with Ellrica Laguardia and CJ Mangahis alternating as Maria Clara. Roy Sotero and Kat Castillo play Elias and Sisa.
Back on the Gantimpala stage are senior artists Joe Gruta as Pilosopong Tasyo, Dante Balois as Kapitan Tiago, Ku Aquino as Padre Damaso, Hope Matriano and Doreen Bernal as Doña Victorina, Kathy Arguelles as Doña Consolacion, and Jojo Riguerra and Patrick Patawaran as Padre Salvi.
