As part of its 41st anniversary celebration, the UP Repertory Company presents “Lean,” the 1977 Gary Granada musical about iconic student activist Leandro Alejandro.
Directed by UP Rep alumna Kathryn Manga and featuring new musical arrangements by Karl Ramirez, “Lean” tells the story of the influential activist beginning with his experiences as a student in UP Diliman and ending with his untimely death at age 27.
“Huwag ninyong hayaan ang inyong pag-aaral ay maging sagabal sa inyong edukasyon,” was his famous mantra. Alejandro’s life and example have defined an era of student activism, and his work still inspires the youth today.
“Lean” runs Sept. 9, 14, 16, 21 (3 p.m. and 7 p.m.) and Sept. 13 and 20 (7 p.m. only) at Dalisay Aldaba Recital Hall, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City.
