There are a few things that can distract from Angelina Jolie’s exquisite face, even for just a brief moment—apart from the gorgeous Brad Pitt on her arms.
Two years ago, at the Oscars, it was her right leg thrusting out of that famous high-slit black dress. In this year’s Oscars, it was those enormous diamond drop earrings she wore with her Elie Saab couture—over 42 carats of flawless, round white diamonds, the only jewelry she wore with the rock on her ring finger.
They were by her jewelry designer Robert Procop, who also supplied Pitt with his cufflinks that evening.
In the year’s biggest red-carpet event, the parade of multimillion-dollar baubles was much anticipated, each as lustrous and dazzling as the high-profile stars wearing them.
There was Charlize Theron, who wore a $15-million Harry Winton cluster pendant around her neck, its focal point the 31-carat square-emerald-cut flawless diamond amid a cluster of smaller stones, with 155 diamonds in total.
Best actress winner Cate Blanchett went for Chopard’s 2014 Red Carpet Collection, one-off drop earrings of iridescent white opals (33 carats) and a bracelet of brown diamonds (49 carats), and a pear-shaped diamond ring.
Season favorite Lupita Nyong’o topped her custom Nairobi-blue Prada dress with Fred Leighton stunners: gold and diamond headband on her shorn head; spiked crescent diamond earrings in gold and rose gold; a 19th-century bracelet and a stack of vintage rings.
Jennifer Lawrence opted to drape her $2-million Neil Lane diamond chain necklace on her back, and paired it with a $1-million platinum ring with white and yellow diamonds.
Anne Hathaway also went for Neil Lane to top her disco-bodice dress by Gucci: a bracelet of 100 carats of diamonds worth $1 million, an emerald and diamond ring and a pair of diamond earrings.
Best Actress nominee Amy Adams bucked the white-diamonds memo and went for the rose-colored rhodochrosite cabochon, lapis lazuli and turquoise gold earrings from Tiffany’s Blue Book collection, an apt foil to her unadorned midnight blue Gucci dress. She paired them with fire opal ring with pink sapphires, yellow diamonds and spessarite beads, and a yellow gold and yellow diamonds bracelet, costing a total of $1.4 million.
Australian actress Naomi Watts made a bold choice with her Art Deco-ish Bulgari spiderweb necklace of white gold with brilliant-cut and pavé diamonds. She paired this with Serpenti bracelet and simple diamond studs.
