It was a curious sight: Ladies who lunch, who had just had their fill of a hearty, well, lunch, sat blindfolded, sniffing at two cloths they held in each hand. It got even more curious after they removed their blindfolds— the ladies began to focus their sniffing on just one of the cloths, which they would rub and rub before sniffing again.

It wasn’t a typical lunchtime scene, but that’s because it wasn’t your typical lunch, either. Socialite Mons Romulo recently hosted “The Downy #Instaswitch Experience,” an intimate get-together at her home in Pasig, which gathered some of her close friends. She shared with them her new discovery: the Downy Parfum Collection and its unique Scent- Switcher technology.

The blindfold and cloth- sniffing were part of a game to test if the ladies could distinguish the Downy scent from the usual perfume. After guessing correctly, they were asked to put to the test the fabric conditioner’s new technology by rubbing the Downy Parfum-washed cloth, which “switches” the cloth’s scent.

The Downy Parfum Collection’s Scent-Switcher technology makes use of two kinds of perfume microcapsules for each of the fabric conditioner’s variants. Once you rub a Downy Parfum- washed garment or linen, these microcapsules are “activated,” or burst at one’s touch. Every rub effectively changes the scent of the cloth, depending on how the microcapsules combine.

If you’re talking in Instagram lingo, you could say that every time you rub, you make the #instaswitch.

“Most people don’t know that Procter & Gamble (the makers of Downy) is one of the biggest perfumers in the world—we produce Lacoste, Dolce &Gabbana, Hugo Boss. The same perfumers who work on those scents are the same ones who produced the Downy Parfum collection,” shared Nicole Villarojo, Downy country brand manager.

“Unlike your regular perfume which loses its scent throughout the day, Downy Parfum’s aroma doesn’t diminish and gets stronger when you rub your clothes,” she added.

Aside from using it on clothes, Mons recommended that her friends also wash with the Downy Parfum line their kitchen linen, as she did for their luncheon.

“I have this also on my bed sheets,” said Mons. “At least you won’t need a scented candle beside your bed anymore.”

“Downy has four scents for you to choose from: Mystique, Innocence, Passion and Happiness. So it depends on what mood your husband or boyfriend wants to be in,” added Mons, which elicited giggles from the ladies.

Guests were delightedly amazed at Downy’s latest innovation, and loved the scents produced by the variant they had sampled, Happiness, which has a light and citrusy aroma.

“I was amazed that could be done. We’ve been using Downy for quite some time, and this is a new experience,” said businesswoman Juliet Cantor.

“I’ve been using Downy for over 30 years. Before, it was just the baby-scent Downy, but now, the smell is more like that of a woman,” added Regal Films’ Roselle MonteverdeTeo.

With their tummies full and sated by the scrumptious fare prepared by chef Florabel Co- Yatco, the ladies, one by one, bid Mons farewell, excited to try and #instaswitch their scent with Downy’s newest collection.
