Filipino photographer, painter, and stage designer win international awards

Filipinos are overflowing with creative juices. After artist Martha Atienza’s win at the Art Basel International Fair 2017, three Filipino artists take the spotlight in the international art scene.

Jophel Ybiosa

Photographer Jophel Ybiosa recently won the Professional Events category of the prestigious Moscow International Awards (MIFA) with his entry showcasing the annual feast of the Black Nazarene. Meanwhile, Ybiosa also got an Honorable Mention for his fine art portrait entry “The Imbalanced Mindset.” Ybiosa is  also an Ani ng Dangal awardee for visual arts.

Worth Lodriga

Worth Lodriga is a seven-year-old painter who has been hailed as the “Little Picasso of the Philippines.” The young artist recently won at the 2017 Student Mars Art with his painting depicting a human in future Mars. The award includes an opportunity to exhibit his work at the University of California in September.

Gino Gonzales

Gino Gonzales has done everything from a concert stage design to fashion shows to theater design. He recently bagged the silver prize for the Professional Designers category at the 2017 World Stage Design for the costume design of Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas’ Hakbang sa Habang, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure. Gonzales primarily used muslin, raffia, jute, sinamay, and abaca to create the costumes. In 2005, Gonzales won a bronze award from WSD for Spolarium.
