Everyone seems to be into lip-syncing now. Jimmy Fallon’s lip sync battle segment has now been turned into its own show, and now dubbing app “Dubsmash” has taken social media feeds by storm.

The German-developed app first became viral in Europe and has now hit our shores. It’s an app that lets you act out lines from movies using your phone’s front-facing camera, and then upload them to your Facebook/Instagram account. They might as well call it “Filipino catnip.”

While Internet pundits are saying that “Dubsmash” will crash into a copyright battle soon as it is storing audio clips from movies, TV shows and songs, it hasn’t stopped celebs like Adam Levine from dubbing himself speaking Samuel L. Jackson’s lines “Pulp Fiction” style; and Rihanna even used it as a marketing vehicle when she uploaded the first few seconds of her latest single.

Here in the Philippines, local celebrities have been having their fair share of fun with the app. Aiza Seguerra and wife Liza reenacted the Jack and Rose farewell scene from “Titanic,” substituting a pool for the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean. Georgina Wilson channeled her inner “Mean Girl,” while Solenn Heussaff and Iya Villania acted out “Clueless.”

On Instagram, the hashtag #dubsmash already has over 1.3 million posts, as do other country-specific “Dubsmash” hashtags—not bad for an app that was launched six months ago.

It’s only a matter of time before “Dubsmash” infiltrates your feed. Are you going to be dubbing along with the rest, or are you going to want to smash your computer or smartphone after your friend’s nth dramatic interpretation of Popoy’s “One More Chance” monologue?
