Downpour fails to stop moviegoers | Lifestyle.INQ

“We know you braved the rain not for us but for Channing Tatum,” said Preen.ph managing editor Cai Subijano to the crowd of friends and influencers who came on July 7 to an advanced screening of “Magic Mike XXL.” Preen hosted the intimate gathering at Century City Mall in Makati.

“I’m open to watching male strippers tonight,” shared Tina Ong of Religion Black, echoing everybody else’s sentiments.

Teresa Herrera knew what she wanted, and had set her expectations high. “I’m looking for bigger and better choreography.”

Some, like Neon Island cofounder Chi Gibbs, were in for a surprise. “I never got to watch the first movie because I wasn’t 18 yet so I’m really looking forward to actually seeing what it’s all about.”

Soon enough, the lights dimmed and the movie started with a closeup shot of Channing’s face. Shrieks of delight could be heard.

The downpour that night couldn’t drown out the various reactions of the audience, from nervous giggles to screams of delight. The sequel provided a highly anticipated repeat performance of the dance routines from Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer, Kevin Nash and Adam Rodriguez indeed.

“I heard it was going to be nominated for an Oscar. But I really didn’t need the storyline, the dancing is all that I needed,” joked designer Rajo Laurel. Fashion blogger Laureen Uy agreed. “I wish there was more dancing! I don’t care if there wouldn’t be much of a story as long as they danced a lot.”

Photographer Tammy David was also quick to give her verdict. “The movie was a twohour rap video. I enjoyed this better than the first movie because this one was just candy.”

Gian Romano said, “I felt tired after the movie. Those girls are being turned around and flipped over! If I were in their place, I’d be black and blue after.”
