THE CENTER for Creative Writing and Literary Studies (CCWLS) of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) is hosting a testimonial dinner and special tribute for National Artist for Literature Cirilo Bautista on Sept. 30, 5 p.m, at the ballroom of the Buenaventura Garcia Paredes, O.P. Bldg., UST campus, Manila.
A graduate of the old UST College of Liberal Arts and a former staff member of the Varsitarian, Bautista is one of the Philippines’ foremost men of letters. His “Trilogy of Saint Lazarus” is widely considered by critics as a classic of epic poetry in English. He has written fiction and essays in English and Filipino as well. He was one of the first writers to be elevated to the Hall of Fame of the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature.
